The United Nations’ theme for this year’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract.”
For the Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference we wanted to work with a designer with a good understanding of the Sámi history and culture and try to find a way to reflect this in the conference design. That, and our previous experience with Árvu was the reason we chose to ask them to create the conference logo. The word Árvu means «value»in Northern Sámi, and on their website they write «Árvu is the unique arctic identity».

We are looking for your most imaginative ideas for how we can host a variety of interesting, engaging, and enlightening talks, workshops, presentations, and events. The Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference will take place online 24–25 June 2021.
At the Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference we want to look at the future of indigenous and underrepresented languages and their presence and use on the Wikimedia projects. The conference will provide space and focus for indigenous and underrepresented language communities to connect, learn from each other, and collaborate.
Å tilgjengeliggjøre all verdens kunnskap
I dokumentaren Det sosiale dilemmaet på Netflix blir Wikipedia trukket fram som motsetningen til nyhetsfeedene i sosiale medier. I sosiale medier får vi mer av det vi gir oppmerksomhet, og det skapes ekkokammer, men på Wikipedia får alle den samme informasjonen. I 2020 har både pandemien og presidentvalget i USA satt Wikipedias kunnskapsarbeid på prøve, en prøve som ble bestått ved godt globalt samarbeid. Det er en glede å starte 2021 med å markere den 20 år lange internasjonale kunnskapsdugnaden som Wikipedia er.
Vinnerne av Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 er klare.
Juryen har bestått av av Jorid Martinsen fra NIKU (Norsk institutt for kulturminneforskning), Greta Doçi fra Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group og den erfarne Commons-fotografen Kjetil Ree. De har valgt ut ti bilder som går videre til den internasjonale finalen. Alle de ti vinnerbildene kan du se på denne sida på Commons.
Wiki Loves Monuments ble først arrangert i Nederland i 2010.
