In April, let’s broaden our horizon: How is modern-day India documented in the Norwegian and Sámi language versions of Wikipedia? And what does it say about Norway and Sápmi in some of the Indian languages? Join our editing competition!

Every month there’s a Wikipedia editing competition to help grow the knowledge base within a certain topic. In April, Wikimedia Norge is inviting you to join our push to learn more about the world’s most populous country. Also, we will be inviting volunteer editors of Wikipedias in Indian languages to write about our sparsely populated North.

The competition

You can create new Wikipedia pages, or edit existing ones, and all details are given on the competition page. There are 22 Indian language versions of Wikipedia, and when volunteers from any of these languages sign up, categories that cover Norwegian and Sámi topics will be added. The competition prizes are gift cards from an online bookstore.

Wikipedia Kickstart

If you want to learn how to edit Wikipedia, we offer Kickstart seminars on the first Wednesday of every month. If you can’t make the Kickstart time slot, you can book a one-on-one Kickstart session with one of our hosts for yourself or a small group. Hosts speak Norwegian and English.

If you create a user account on Wikipedia and use the new home page function, you will be assigned a mentor who can help you get going. Wikipedia also has a beginner’s forum packed with useful information, where you can post questions.

The training offered by Wikimedia Norge is tailored for editors on Norwegian and Sámi Wikipedias, but other language versions provide similar help to onboard volunteers.
