Se orienteringsepost gjengitt under.
Hello, everyone.
We’re glad to report that the legislation initiative we have been lobbying for, namely the Copyright Law reform regarding state-owned intellectual property (currently limited to photographs), has made another big step forward: in the general assembly of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) this afternoon, the proposed law was read and voted on, in what is called a «preliminary reading».
The members of Knesset present voted 21 in favor and zero against, i.e. unanymously supported the proposed amendment making state and IDF-owned photographs free for use by the public. The proposal now passes to the Science and Technology committee of the Knesset, where it will be formalized, amended, and then passed back to the general assembly for voting into law.
We hope to continue influencing the legislation, in the direction of making the photographs free, that is to say, including commercial use.
We were greatly encouraged in this when MK Meir Sheetrit, in defending the proposal before the assembly, explicitly cited the United States’ example.
Wikimedia Israel will provide the Science and Technology committee with a position paper on desirable amendments to the proposal, and we will keep everyone posted.
