6 lessons learned from Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference

The Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference happened 24th–25th of June, after 6 months of planning. Our wish was to indulge the participants in a true Arctic adventure in the city of Tromsø, Norway. For reasons we all know, instead of midnight sun and overly expensive food, we got a global online get-together of enthusiastic, knowledgeable, curious Wikimedians, both experienced and new.

Arctic Art+Feminism: The Art of Indigenous Knowledge

Art+Feminism is a global network of activists that are increasing the visibility of women of arts all around the world. By Introducing Arctic Art+Feminism, we wanted to focus on women from Indigenous groups in the Arctic region. This project aligns with our work to increase diversity on the Wikimedia projects, both for Indigenous languages and the gender balance on Wikipedia and the project was partly funded by Fritt Ord Foundation.

The Call for Submissions for the Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference 2021 is open and runs until 15 April!

We are looking for your most imaginative ideas for how we can host a variety of interesting, engaging, and enlightening talks, workshops, presentations, and events. Are you a Wikidata, Commons, Translation Tool, or other wizard, and you want to help new editors get involved through Arctic Knot? Have you been trying something so innovative that you would like to share with the Wikimedia community?

At the Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference we want to look at the future of indigenous and underrepresented languages and their presence and use on the Wikimedia projects. The conference will provide space and focus for indigenous and underrepresented language communities to connect, learn from each other, and collaborate

Årets Wikipedianer 2020

Styret i Wikimedia Norge utnevner hvert år Årets Wikipedianer for å hedre den enorme frivillige innsatsen på Wikimedia-prosjektene.

Tildelingen i 2020 skjedde under årsmøtet til Wikimedia Norge per video den 14. mars 2020, og vi skulle gjerne gitt vinneren mye mer oppmerksomhet enn hva som er mulige i en videokonferanse!

Årets Wikipedianer har vært på Wikipedia i 13 år, 9 måneder og 12 dager i dag, og er Kimberli Mäkäräinen, brukeren: Yupik!

Digital inkludering av urfolksspråk

Tenker du noen gang over hvilken betydning språket har i livet ditt? Du har kanskje lagt merke til at når du snakker et annet språk, så endrer du også litt personlighet? Dette er fordi språket vårt er nært knyttet opp til vår identitet. Det snakkes om lag 6700 språk i verden og av disse står 40 prosent i fare for å forsvinne. De fleste av disse språkene er urfolksspråk, og forsvinner de står også deres kultur og kunnskapssystem i fare.
